Parents

Our parents play a vital role in supporting our Active Schools journey and promoting physical activity both in school and at home. Families encourage children to stay active by taking part in active homework tasks, practising skills together, and promoting movement as part of everyday life. Parents also show great support for school sports teams by attending matches, helping with events, and encouraging positive participation. Many families support children in attending afterschool clubs and activities such as hurling, basketball, camogie and dancing, helping them to develop confidence, teamwork, and healthy habits. Their enthusiasm and encouragement have helped create a positive culture of activity and wellbeing throughout our whole school community. We are very fortunate and grateful to the parents who have kindly shared their sporting knowledge with the children. Such as Taekwondo, set dancing, hurling/ camogie and cricket.

Limerick Sports Partnership

At the beginning of our Active Schools journey, one of our first steps was to connect with Limerick Sports Partnership (LSP), who provided us with valuable guidance, support, and practical ideas. Through this partnership, LSP also introduced us to the local Sports Inclusion Disability Officer, who shared resources and expert advice on how to make our PE lessons more inclusive and accessible for all pupils. They introduced us to a physical activity plan called ‘Activities for All’.

As part of this support, we received a range of athletics lesson plans tailored for use with our classes, and we also had the opportunity to hire Sports Hall athletics equipment through LSP. In addition, LSP promotes a wide variety of physical activity opportunities for both children and adults across Limerick. You can explore these programmes by clicking on the logo and visiting their website.

Active Schools Committee

Our Active Schools Committee consists of both male and female pupils from 6th class and is led by Ms. O’ Rourke. As the number is lower in 6th class, we felt they could handle the responsibility and managing of  the committee and ensuring that goals are met. Our Active Schools Committee consists of Amber Lyons, Laura Webber, Ava Brennan, Brooke O’ Halloran, Jayden Mulqueen, Ollie Ryan and Liam Foley all members of 6th class. The Active School Committee meet every month with Ms O’ Rourke to discuss the strategies used to ensure physical activity is always a priority in the school. They brainstorm ideas, create a plan of action and discuss previous ventures/events, discussing whether they were a success or not. They enjoy the responsibility and take pride in their role to encourage and initiate physical activity within their school.

Local Clubs and Organisations

In Caherconlish N.S. We have strong connections with the clubs and organisations in our local area. We carried out a survey based on the sporting clubs our pupils are members of. Out of our 100 students , 82 are members of sports clubs in the locality, including soccer clubs, GAA clubs, dancing clubs, swimming clubs, rugby clubs and many more

Our school slogan

The Active Schools Committee brainstormed and discussed the suggestions of all students and narrowed the slogan options down to 4 or 5 choices, they discussed it with Ms. O’ Rourke and they decided to pick the slogan that stood out to them and that would be used as a fun chant during school events and sports events. We display this slogan on our Active Schools noticeboard at school.

‘Move it , Think it , Caherconlish it!’
